Pay To Photograph At Cottesloe Beach?

Cottesloe Beach, Cott, australian landscape photography

Can you believe it?   Soon there is a chance we might have to pay to take photographs like this at Cottesloe Beach?   Click on the link if you don’t.   I must admit I stayed pretty quiet about Ken Duncan’s campaign to tackle the requirement of permits at certain areas over East and I certainly never thought we’d be facing the same issue here.   All I want to do is go and take photographs at places like this and not be made to feel like I’m doing something wrong.

What can we do about it here in Perth?

I am close to getting to a point where I might just move to an island and be Robinson Coruso for the rest of my days so that I don’t have to put up with this ever increasing bureachrasy we are faced with in every facet of our lives!

It seems to me that everyone who holds down positions in these institutions that make the rules go to a reprogramming school whereby they learn to make decisions that will piss people off for no obvious gain to anyone!

    • Hi Mark,

A good strong opinion that I must agree with. Seems to me that they are more worried about protecting the rights of criminals in this day and age than they are with the general public.

    Hey Jamie

Nothing new mate, WA has photographic laws like these all over the state. I battle and pay for locations on a monthly basis. You think landscape photography is hard, try getting a permit to shoot a comp truck!

That said, yeah it sucks bums!

    • Hey Graham,

I get that it would be hard for you. I don’t why it should be hard for me though, I’ve just got my camera and tripod and nothing else.

  3. I heard about this today through Charlene and it is absolutely nuts. BureauCRAZY!!!

Australian legislation has gone round the bend, it is becoming increasingly downright ridiculous. More regulations and bans than most other countries.

I joke about banning things (like fast food chains) but I never mean it literally, of course the public has a right to decide for themselves and why oh why would you turn people shooting a photog at a beach into criminals. Australian pollies have gone mad!

    • Hi Flemming,

My thoughts exactly. Why turn photographers into criminals? Why is there no mention of the fact that they aren’t banning an artist from sitting down at the beach and doing sketches? They only ever pick on photographers.

    Hey J

Mate if you are just taking snaps for the wall at home, no big deal….you only need a permit to photograph for profit. The laws at any metro beach in WA have no bearing on amateur photogs (or in any WA location for that matter). Grab your gear and go dude 🙂

  5. Hey Jamie,

I think we need to march down to the pollies office and give them some of there own medicine they are a bunch of idiots. Its like watching a bunch of school kids fight over play lunches seriously and they run our country pffft.
The laws they have introduced with everything are stupid they need to have something to open there eyes if people that get refused entry into Australia rebelling on roofs can get on tv why can’t we get on there because we want to fight for what is truely ours our land our backyard our lifes and most of all our Democratic country yeah right more like communist if you ask me.
I think we seriously need to do something but what I am not sure but I love a challenge and a bloody good fight lets band together and do something people.

  6. I used to think Oz was a nice medium between U.K. (anal) and Greece (chaos). In the last 10 yrs the authorities have slowly become officious, pedantic basterds!
It has happened so slowly that we suddenly find that we can’t do many things that we took for granted and are mostly pretty harmless.
The worst part is that we had no say about it or we were too apathetic!
Ken Duncan and others are dead right, soon we will have few personal freedoms!

Yep it’s been spiraling out of control for years now. I heard on the news that the laws there (Cot.beach) incorporate a huge array of things – in fact there is over 100 of them ! Ranging from pedantic things such as the size of your beach umbrella, no ball games, limited size groups of people etc etc (ie no more than 5-6 or something…?)… sounds like a fun day at the beach to me….. *ho hum*

Glad we live in the FREE country 😦
