Point Walter Sunset

sunsets, australian landscape photography, australian seascape photography, point walter, bicton

Hi Everyone,

Well I was lucky enough to be out and about like Markie Mark and Col of Birds Eye View Photography were on Saturday evening and managed to grab a few shots of the awesome sunset.   What a sunset it was, it was so colourful and it just lasted forever, I was shooting for at least 20mins and even had time to sit back and watch the view as well.   This place is called Point Walter and on a good day you can actually walk right out into the middle of the Swan River.  Pretty cool.

The sunset was that intense I had to use a couple of filters to try and stop it from overpowering the foreground!   All in all it was a fantastic evening and hopefully we’ll have another one soon.

Cool shot Jamie…interesting that you chose just about the exact angle facing North West that I did…only in a more Westerly direction eh!

    • What do they say mate? Great minds? I think Mother Nature was telling us which way to shoot. It was really cool, facing West it was that fierce orange. Facing North was an amazing pink. I’ll put up a pink photo tomorrow night. Stay tuned!

Hey Jamie, cracker composition. Again looking at all the posts on this particular sunset just proves how lucky we actually are to not have hideous smog and pollution blocking out such wonders.

    • Hi Adrian,

Couldn’t agree more. When I was in the Navy we used to sail past Sydney all the time and see a massive pollution ‘dome’ just hanging over it, it was crazy. Not as bad as when I was in Beijing, it was so smoggy there that the sun just couldn’t break through.

  4. Amazing colours there mate. Did you walk all the way out on that sand bar?

    Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 14:17

    • Hi Kheng,

No I only walked about 20% of the way out onto the sand bar. Next really low time I’m going to walk out and shoot back to the beach.

  5. Well captured Jamie, amazing colours. Is the horizon perhaps a bit in the middle and the bottom part could be cropped. Had no idea this point existed, very cool.

    • Hi Flemming,

Thanks for taking the time to comment as always mate. I was going to crop but Melissa liked it without the crop. Wife wins!!!

Absolutely stunning colours Jamie – boy that looks like it was a cracking sunset ! A real interesting composition with the ‘sand bar’ and its shape adding good focal interest to the shot, perhaps a touch to center if one was picky… still works though IMO 🙂

    cheers,

    • Hi Tony,

It was a little centre but there wasn’t much I could do otherwise I would’ve been shooting from the water! hehe.
