Bennion Beach Streaks

bennion cottesloe trigg beach waves surf australian landscapes seascapes

Hi Everyone,

I managed to pick a wicked Saturday morning to go shooting down at Bennion Beach!    I started off down at Cottesloe Beach and then saw it was high tide so I worked my way up to Trigg Beach and then settled at Bennion Beach.   The surf was smashing through and the waves were coming in huge sets.   Just before I captured this shot I was lining it up when a freak wave came through and covered me up to my waist, I had to hold the tripod above my head to keep it dry.    I certainly felt like I was in an action movie instead of trying to capture a half decent seascape!     Unfortunately there was a casualty from the wave soaking (aside from wet tracksuit pants), I lost a saftey thong, fortunately I managed to put my camera into a safe spot and then had to wade back into the water waist deep again to rescue my thong.

I certainly got a lot of weird looks from people when I crawled back up to the carpark soaking wet with camera in hand.   Oh well, no pain, no gain.   I certainly think the shot was worth it, hopefully you guys do as well.

What is the craziest thing you’ve done to capture a photo?

Thanks for reading my post,

Jamie Paterson Photography

    I like it Jamie!
I have been scared while taking photos thats for sure! In victoria once I jumped a farm fence to be confronted by the biggest angriest lookin horse ive ever seen.
Then theres just annoying drunks that give you a little kick on their way past ya!

  2. That long swash bit adds a lot of movement to the photo. I sure like it.

Craziest thing I’ve done to take a photo? Nothing very wild: creeping across a gorge in Karijini that way out of my league with all my gear. The look on my other half’s face was priceless when a foot slipped and I lurched very dramatically downwards…

    Brilliant shot.

  5. Hi Dylan,

That would be scary, I like horses but have never fully trusted them and they know it.

    Charelene,

Ummmm what can I say? I would’ve thought that was pretty extreme.

  9. Hi Katie,

The setting I used for this shot were:

    F16
    iso50
    .6 sec for the shutter.

    Hope that helps.
